The Bursary is designed to help cover everyday costs like travel, meals, and course materials. In some cases, it can also help with things like educational trips or UCAS application fees.
There are two types of bursary:
If you’re in one of the groups below and can show financial need, you may be eligible for a vulnerable bursary:
If your household income is below £32,000, you may be able to apply for a discretionary bursary. This is assessed on a monthly basis.
Please note: bursary payments are linked to behaviour and attendance. If either falls below College expectations, payments may be reduced or paused.
Free meals
You may be eligible for free meals at College if your household receives any of the following:
If you receive a meal bursary and are absent from College, the meal allowance for that day will not be paid.
If you’re a student with a child, the Care to Learn scheme may be able to help with childcare costs. Visit gov.uk/care-to-learn for details and to apply.
If you live more than 12 miles from College and are not eligible for a Manchester concessionary pass, you may be entitled to a monthly travel subsidy. Get in touch with the Bursary Office for an application form.
