“I chose Computer Science as it is a very dynamic field that is constantly changing with new opportunities emerging all the time. I have not decided on which area yet but I definitely know that I want to work in a big tech company, not just as a developer, but as an executive or project director. During the first half of the week, we have an introduction to theory and then later in the week put that into practice. We also work on assessed projects and one of mine has been creating a graphical calculator, which involved initial investigation, research and then documenting the process I followed.

We take part in local trips and visits, such as to KPMG and TalkTalk, to give us insights into working in computing. We also have work experience opportunities with local companies to practice our skills and explore careers in the industry. I’ve found the ‘Legal, Moral, Cultural and Ethical Issues’ module interesting as we have fascinating debates about the ethical implications of introducing new technology, such as Artificial Intelligence. We have weekly programming challenges, and this week we’ve been given an exam-style problem that we need to solve around encryption. We have been given a word, and we need to write a programme that puts the vowels in a different order to enable encryption of the word.”
