“Geography has always been my favourite subject. I believe studying Geography has given me a real-world insight into the application of geographical principles, providing a holistic understanding of important global affairs and environmental issues, as well as being a genuinely fun and engaging subject to study. We typically learn about topics in the classroom and, last week, we split into groups of four or five to research and do a presentation on global political groups. We looked at five political groups, what they do, and the influence they have in world politics.
We have lots of debates and discussions in class and, next week, we are talking about physical geography. We will use data on environment changes and climate change we collected from a field trip to the Lake District a few weeks ago. One of the highlights of the course is a four-day residential to the deserts of Spain, where we look at the impact of globalisation, water security and the effect tourism has on the local area. There are evening lectures or online talks we can go to at the local university, delivered by the Royal Geographical Society and Manchester Geographical Association, and these are on topics related to what we are studying.”
