“Overall, our German lessons have felt very inclusive and interactive. The environment of the classroom is very welcoming and encouraging, making lessons enjoyable. Also, simply learning a language has been so rewarding, as I can clearly see the progress that I have made and have been able to apply what I have learnt in real life.
In German, we read the novel ‘Ich fühle mich so 50/50’. It is a story about an East German student’s right to be in West Germany and the difficulties of integrating there. Furthermore, we study social issues such as immigration in Germany, the rise of the far right, Alternativ für Deutschland (AfD) and, of course, the unification of Germany. Students from The University of Manchester came into College in Year 12 to inspire us to study a beginner’s subject at university, alongside our main subject, such as Arabic, Portuguese or Italian. It was great to experience another subject and to see the differences and similarities between them.”
