“Graphics is by far my favourite subject. I’ve really been able to refine my skills as an artist and explore new ways of incorporating various media into my work. I’ve especially enjoyed the branding projects creating cohesive brand identities and anything that’s allowed me to focus on the illustration elements of graphics. Throughout the course, we are introduced to new techniques by our teacher. We have covered hand-rendered image making, digital image making and typography and we combine these elements to produce an effective final design, such as book covers, logo and brand creation and poster design.
This week, we are working on our coursework brief, and mine was ‘shoes’. I created the shoe and associated graphics to produce a complete branded marketing campaign. I started by making mood boards of images and focused on two artists who have inspired me with their work. One used a comic style and the other used colours in a unique way. I combined their styles and created my own graphic images by hand and then digitised the images onto computer design software to edit them into posters, badges, web pages and online graphics. There is a trip planned to New York, and this sounds amazing and it is about looking at art in other cultures. We also have guest speakers from universities who come in and speak to us about Degree courses and university life.”
