“This week, we were introduced to momigami, a Japanese papermaking technique, so we can experiment with texture. Next week, we will learn about the use of acetone to transfer images and couching to lay threads onto the surface of our artwork. There is always so much to learn and try. Even with techniques I already knew, I am encouraged to experiment and take creative risks like knitting with clothing or burning my work to make it look more delicate and interesting.
I like being able to pick my own concepts to work with and being able to experiment with different materials to produce something that is unique. Once we finish our artwork, it is displayed at the end-of-year Art Exhibition for the public to view. We have already visited the ‘Create Your Future’ fair at Manchester Central and New York where we visited the Museum of Modern Art, The Whitney and the Guggenheim Museum.”
