No, attending has no bearing on your application. We do recommend it though. It’s the best way to meet teachers, talk to current students and see what life at Xaverian is really like before you decide if we’re right for you.
Most of our places go to students moving from Year 11 into Year 12. If you’re in Year 10, it’s too early to apply.
The process is a little different if you’re home educated. Instead of a school reference, you’ll have an in-person interview with a member of staff to review your qualifications and your move to college. At the interview, bring at least one of the following:
Yes, and apply as soon as you can. Manchester colleges are heavily oversubscribed, so make sure you apply to more than one. Tell us on your application when you’re moving, and include your new address once you have it. If your move means you’re applying late, just explain why.
Yes. We offer over 30 subjects, and many of them aren’t taught in schools. If you fancy trying something new, come along to our Open and Taster Days. You can also check the entry requirements for any course on our website or in our prospectus.
Yes. We’ll confirm at enrolment whether we can accommodate the exam for it. You’ll usually take it as a 4th subject alongside your 3 core subjects.
Most students study 3 A Levels, but that’s not your only option. You can also take a Triple or Single Applied Subject, so some students combine 2 A Levels with 1 Applied Subject. A small number of students take 4 A Levels. We often recommend 3 A Levels alongside an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) instead.
Yes. We recommend it. Applying to a few colleges keeps your options open while you work out what’s right for you. You can hold offers from more than one college at the same time, and you don’t need to make your final decision until next August.
Yes, though we do prioritise applications that arrive by the deadline. Tell us why yours is late, it helps us process it. Places may already be filling up by the time we receive a late application, so apply to a number of colleges to make sure you have a place secured for September.
Yes. Contact the Admissions team and they’ll help you get it amended.
We’re not able to offer transfers into Year 12 or Year 13. This is due to capacity, differing exam boards, and the impact on teaching continuity. If you’re currently in Year 12, you can apply to restart Year 12 with us, though we prioritise Year 11 leavers.
Your offer is based on the subjects you’ve applied for and agreed at your Course Consultation Interview, along with the grades you need to enrol onto them. If your results on GCSE Results Day don’t match the entry criteria, we may be able to offer alternatives, though we can’t guarantee this.
If you’re worried about your predicted grades or your subject choices, get in touch for advice. Most of our students get the grades they need, so put the work in and make it happen.
These subjects matter for your future, so it’s worth putting the work in this year. If you don’t pass English and/or Maths, you’ll resit them alongside your other subjects while you study with us.
No. We don’t run a full GCSE programme at Xaverian. English and Maths are the only GCSEs available, and only as a resit alongside your full-time Level 3 course.
Enrolment takes place in late August. We’ll send you details in July with your appointment date and time. It’s important that you’re available, as we may not be able to fit in a late enrolment. If you know you’ll be away or unable to attend, contact the Admissions team as soon as possible.
Enrolment happens in person. It can’t be done online, and a family member can’t attend on your behalf. Your enrolment pack will tell you everything you need to bring, but the main thing is proof of your qualifications.
