Our recent Art Exhibition displayed Fine Art, Graphics, Photography and Textiles and work made by the ingenious Year 13s. The event brought together staff, students, family and friends to celebrate and admire their creative work.
It was a night you had to be there, full of a range of art in different shapes, sizes, colours and fonts. On the evening, the artwork was complemented by soft jazz played by our band and a refreshing cup of fruit-infused beverages. The warm, exciting atmosphere was buzzing with visitors infatuated by the displays and students proudly staring back at their crafts they spent months tirelessly working on.
Every piece told a story and had a distinct look you couldn’t take your eyes off. A Photography student, Shakira, described her art as “challenging patriarchal ideologies of women”. Textiles student, Max, described his work as “restrictive” and “an imitation of minimalism that’s meant to reject ideals.” The comments highlighted the conceptual thoughts behind their pieces, encouraging viewers to see beyond the appearance of the pieces. This reflects the wider theme throughout the exhibition, where students used a variety of materials, techniques and styles to communicate personal perspectives and contemporary issues. The diversity of work made the exhibition engaging to visitors from different backgrounds and beliefs.
Staff members were extremely proud of how much their students have achieved. Dani, Curriculum Leader for Art & Design, and the co-ordinator of the event said: “Our students are fantastic! This year, the quality is fantastic and the creativity and the range of things the students produce is just really exciting and inspiring.” Such heartwarming words that really show her appreciation and admiration for all the brilliant minds from the Xaverian art department.
It’s safe to say that Xaverian’s annual Art Exhibition was a great success, leaving visitors impressed by the diversity, quality and originality of the displays.
