Revision tips that work

1

Start early

Start revising as early as possible. The more time you give yourself, the more you’ll remember, and the fewer last-minute panics you’ll have.
2

Build a timetable

Plan out each subject and break the content down into a revision timetable. Try the Pomodoro Technique: 20 to 30 minutes of study followed by a 10 to 15 minute break.
3

Get your environment right

Think about where you revise. Make sure you’re comfortable, well lit and free from distractions like noise or your phone.
4

Mix up your methods

Try flash cards, past papers, mind maps, group study with friends or recording yourself talking through a topic. Two of our favourites are the Scribble Technique and the Blurting Technique. Both get you recalling information from memory rather than just re-reading it. Create a prompt sheet with the key triggers for a topic and glance at it if you get stuck.
5

Look after yourself too

Revision works best when you’re rested. Aim
for 7 to 8 hours of sleep a night, eat well and keep moving with regular exercise.

Take regular breaks. Stepping away from
your desk keeps you alert and helps information stick.

Stay positive. A positive attitude makes it easier to focus, remember and hit your goals.

What’s next

Good luck in your exams. There will be plenty of opportunities to visit the College and find out more about the Xaverian experience, and once Results Day arrives, we’ll be ready to welcome you to Enrolment.
