It’s not an A level, and it’s not a repeat of GCSE. It’s a practical qualification you take alongside your other subjects, equivalent to an AS Level and worth the same UCAS points.
If you’re applying for courses like Psychology, Sociology, Business, Geography or Biological Sciences, Core Maths gives you a head start. You’ll develop the data analysis and problem-solving skills these subjects depend on, and some universities make reduced offers to students who hold it.
You need a grade 5 or above in GCSE Maths to take this course. Beyond that, you don’t need to love maths, just be willing to use it.
