Catholic Social Teaching is woven into everyday life at Xaverian – through the way we treat each other, the causes we support, and the conversations we have.
Every year, students and staff raise money, collect donations, volunteer their time and take on challenges for causes they care about. Some are long-standing traditions. Some respond to what’s happening in the world right now. All of them are rooted in the same conviction: that we have a responsibility to one another, and that responsibility matters.
From sleeping out overnight to raise awareness of homelessness to collecting food for local families at harvest time, from supporting people living with cancer to raising funds for communities overseas – this is Catholic Social Teaching in action.
A society is judged by how it cares for its poor and vulnerable. This preferential option for the poor must be more than just a belief — it must be reflected in our actions and daily lives.
Work gives dignity to life and must be carried out in a way that respects the basic rights of workers.
We are one human family, regardless of our national, racial, ethnic, economic, or ideological differences. Our love for all of God’s family compels us to work together to promote peace and unity.
We show our respect for the Creator by our stewardship of creation.
You don’t need to be Catholic to connect with these ideas. Questions about fairness, dignity, community and the environment are ones that all of us live with.
At Xaverian, you’ll explore these principles in Core RE and across your studies. You’ll see them reflected in the way the College operates. And you’ll have real opportunities to act on them – through charity events, volunteering, student-led initiatives and more.
