“I have enjoyed learning about the different aspects of science and how they relate to healthcare. I really enjoyed the amount of independence I had when doing my coursework for each unit. This helped me to be more organised and responsible for my own work. This week, after our teacher introduced the topic of titration, we did a presentation in groups about its different uses in industry so we could understand the science behind it and the real-world application of the process.

We focused our presentation on titration in the context of testing chlorine levels in a swimming pool and why this is important. Following this, we conducted titration experiments in the lab so we could understand how the process works and analyse the data. This is typical of how we learn and this is replicated in other topics and techniques within the three subjects, such as how nerves work, the properties of light and wave equations. We work on assignment briefs that count towards our final grade, and the brief specifies what needs to be included in the final report. For example, in Biology, we are looking at enzymes and the effect of temperature on the rate of an enzyme-controlled reaction, and in Physics we are looking at the applications of physics in a medical or hospital setting, such as MRI machines and CAT scanners.”
